COVID-19 Edition: Learning, Earning, and Serving

Topic: Growth Agent Insight Video strategy

I'd like to give you something to think about during these times when we're all struggling to learn how to run a business in a global pandemic. And to do that, I'd like to quote the theory of a very bright man named Nido Qubein, the president of High Point University, who said “a formula for success in business is learning, earning, and serving”. And I'd like to turn that around just a little bit in terms of the order. Because in the first place as insurance agents, you're going to continue to earn. You may have some ups and downs in your income over the next few months but basically; it's secure. There are lots of things you can do, as I'll talk about in other videos, to increase your income but what I want you to do is chill out. You're going to be okay.

So, with that said, how can you turn your focus to serving? There are two groups to think about. The first, of course, are your clients. How can you help them through this uncertain time? And I'm not just referring here to handling claims, or endorsement requests, or even answering questions about coverage; I'm referring to how you handle the human needs that they are experiencing. How can you help them deal with the uncertainty, both personally and professionally? Focus your attention on that, and you will develop amazing relationships that will be unbreakable into the future and you'll be doing a wonderful thing to help them. The other thing is, how can you help your community? Many businesses don't have income security that you do. So how can you help them? Can you buy gift cards from restaurants? Can you buy six months of office supplies from a local business? There are many ways that you can help people who are much more economically challenged than yourself and you will do well by doing good. The third thing, is how can you prepare yourself personally and your team organizationally to take advantage of the opportunities that are going to come? How can you develop your and your teams' skillset with learning? Now is the time to focus on that.

So, remember learning, earning, and serving - a very simple way to develop confidence and do wonderful things for yourself, your community, and those you serve during these uncertain times
